The goals of the mission program of 1st Presbyterian Church of Clarkston are as follows: educate everyone in the church about how we are called to serve in mission to our local and greater community; encourage financial support for the mission of the church; to provide opportunities for individuals in the church to personally participate in mission projects and for our church to be a Christian witness to the local community and beyond as a result of our mission.
Mission trip 2016 – We are going to Kamiah, Idaho to work on rebuilding projects going back to the tragic wildfires that happened in and around Kamiah in 2015. The trip will be June 13 to 17, 2016. This trip is in cooperation with Pastor LuAnn Howard of Kamiah and the PDA, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance program which is supporting wildfire relief in our Presbytery and throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Individuals may sign up at church. Team members can come and help for one day or all week as their schedule allows. Everyone is welcome to come and help, whatever their skill level with power tools and building projects.
We provide financial support and encourage our members to participate individually in the following local programs in the Lewis Clark Valley. These are: Young Life; Homes of Hope; Asotin County Food Bank; Valley Meals on Wheels; Family Promise, Interlink Volunteers ROC, reach out center homeless ministry; and the ministry of our own Michael McPeak at Idaho State University.
2nd Saturday - As the name implies we meet on the 2nd Saturday of each month to work on needed projects in our community. Most often this means building wheelchair ramps to allow continued mobility for individuals to remain in their own homes. We do yard work and other projects as needed. This program is in cooperation with Interlink which gives us the names of the individuals for whom we will work and also provides most of the funding for supplies and materials.
TLC, the learning club – This is our after school tutoring program in cooperation with our neighborhood school, Grantham Elementary School of Clarkston which is the highest poverty school area in the LC Valley. Church missions pay for program coordinator and we have many volunteer who read and help students in grades 1 – 4, three days per week after school.
Also we provide financial support to the mission programs of our Presbyterian denomination, including Presbytery of Inland Northwest and General Assembly of PCUSA.
